When one of the campus buildings at Southampton University was experiencing electrical difficulties, we were contracted along with PBE Rutherford to investigate and rectify the issue.
The fault lay with one of the underground circuits supplying the building. It was necessary to excavate the ground in order to access the circuit in question. As it was term time, however, the university was full of students.
We therefore took steps to minimise disruption and noise during the excavation.
Once we’d located the damaged section of cable, we removed it and replaced it with a new section, fitted with hard-wearing resin joints.
All done, we tested the circuit to ensure it was fully functional and safe, then re-commissioned the electric supply.
