In November 2021, we were called in at short notice to help get an exciting festive project up and running, bringing a winter village and ice rink to the local people of Redbridge so that they could enjoy family fun in the lead up to the festive period, and afterwards into the New Year.
The Fairlop Winter Village project, a joint venture between Vision and the London Borough of Redbridge, involved a very tight schedule, needing to be ready for launch in early December.
It was imperative that, in our capacity as site electrical contractors, we ensured quality and safety, despite the timescale. It was also important that we worked in unison with all the other trades on site so we could together make the event a success.
There was a lot to do. Firstly, we had to install a 70mm 5 core steel wire armoured cable from the existing service on Fairlop Road, running it into the temporary village enclosure which was located in the Fairlop Outdoor Activity Centre within Fairlop Waters Country Park. The cable terminated into a panel board, and then we installed a 50mm 5 core cable to provide a power supply to the ice rink.
Once this was done, we went on to install a number of 240 volt electrical supplies to serve all the food and drink vending units, together with the various festive display lighting installations.
We installed emergency lighting within the changing areas, ensuring all the steel wire armoured and arctic blue flex cables were protected and placed safely out of reach with RCBO protection.
The project was a complete success, with Fairlop Winter Village opening officially on schedule on 11 December 2021, delighting local residents with the likes of ice skating, food and drink stalls, sweets and treats, rides and a memory photo booth.
Ahead of the official opening, the Mayor of Redbridge attended the venue, enjoying a professional ice skating performance and meeting the team behind the village.
For helping us with an above and beyond service and making everything possible at short notice to get the Fairlop Winter Village up and running on time, our special thanks go Rexel Electrical Wholesalers in Ilford, and Balham Electrical Wholesalers in Hainault.
