This recently completed project in Totteridge, North London, involved the refurbishment of a luxury and very traditional residential property.
The Kitchen Diner
This was one of the main areas of refurbishment. The kitchen diner covered quite an extensive area and was probably one of the most traditionally maintained living spaces we’ve worked on, with its authentic wooden ceiling beams, brick walls and natural stone flooring.
New lighting was required throughout, but it was important to keep it understated so that the beauty of the traditional features would shine through.
Powerful yet subtle spotlights were therefore placed between the ceiling beams and over the oven range with great care taken to work around these redeeming features. Additional sockets were fitted for added convenience, and to keep the stone floor warm under foot and to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout, underfloor heating was installed.
The Library
In this reading area, we installed specialist lighting along the bookshelves. The room again boasted traditional features, so we took care in selecting a ceiling light that would blend beautifully with the theme. The lighting is warm and inviting, perfect for a library.
The Living Room
Subtle spotlights were installed in the ceiling of the living area around the traditional feature fireplace and continued to light the area around the bespoke home entertainment unit where new wall lights were also installed to highlight the artwork.
The new utility room was also lit with spotlights and the existing fuse boards located there for the external lighting were replaced. The electric supply for the swimming pool was repositioned, attractive and befitting lighting was installed to accentuate the owner’s art collection, and further spotlights installed in the stairwell area.
The Next Stage
All in all an enjoyable and extensive job and we are currently working on the next phase: a one-bedroom self-contained guest house, which you can see from the photos below is in the early stages. More photos to come as we progress.
